Cats and their humans share some of the sweetest moments with head bunts, petting sessions, and couch snuggles, but they’re also the moments during which you’re most likely to be covered in cat fur.

The removal of cat hair from clothes can also be a challenge if you don’t know the trick.

You might love your cats, but we understand the problem of finding cat hair on your clothes and we have a solution.

Why You Should Remove Cat Hair from Clothes

Many reasons may make you wish to avoid being covered in cat hair. You may be going to spend time with someone who suffers from allergies to cats.

Maybe you have a very important meeting at work or you are attending a fancy event. Or perhaps you don’t like the feeling of being covered in cat hair-and we perfectly understand!

Additionally, clothing covered in cat hair can even cause problems for your washing machine: When water mixes with it, it forms large clumps that clog the drain holes and pumps and strain your plumbing system.

So, it is better to get off those cat hair from clothes.

How to Get Cat Hair Off Clothes

Jessica Ek, director of digital communications for the American Cleaning Institute, says that static electricity plays a significant role when it comes to cat hair clinging to everything.

She explains that reducing static electricity is one of the keys to this problem. How to do it? If the garment isn’t dry-clean-only, Ek suggests applying moisture to break static cling.

Step by step guide:

  • Take a paper towel or wet your hands lightly.
  • You can help the hair form a large clump by brushing your wet hands or paper towel over any cat hair on your clothes.
  • Remove the large clumps of cat hair from your clothing with your hands and throw them away.

Dryer sheets or rubber gloves moistened with water also work well. Using an anti-static spray can also prevent the fur from clinging to clothes in the first place, says Ek.

Ek says that lint rollers or masking tape can be used to lift cat hair off dry-clean fabrics or lighter dustings of hair.

How to Get Cat Hair Off Clothes in Washing Machine

If there is significant cat hair on your clothes, it is best to remove it before putting them through the washer.

Before washing, try the methods above OR use a no-heat dryer cycle for 10 minutes to remove the static cling. Make sure the lint trap is empty afterward.

To loosen cat hair from clothes in your washing machine, add white vinegar as a natural fabric softener. A wash cycle with bleach can also dissolve cat hair.

Use an anti-static dryer sheet or a dryer ball when it’s time to dry to break up static cling and remove any remaining pet hair.

Removing Cat Hair Off Clothes Quickly

It’s a good idea to keep a small lint roller in your purse or your car, and even a few dryer sheets to wipe down the cat hair if needed.

Remember that, you can still succeed even if you are empty-handed.

You just need to wet it with a little water and wipe it over cat hair to break the static cling and form easy-to-remove clumps of hair.

It is not necessary to use cat hair removal products to remove cat hair from clothes, but they do make things easier. Check out these product picks to help you banish the fluff.

  • Dryer Sheets – You can use any dryer sheet to collect pet hair in the dryer or wipe it off clothes when dampened. The key is to make sure the box specifically says the sheets are anti-static, although most of them are.
  • Lint Rollers – This is a good option for a quick, small-area de-hairing on the go, but it’s not the most effective or eco-friendly solution.
  • Dryer Balls – Wool dryer balls sweep stray cat hair into your lint trap once they bounce around your machine.
  • Anti-Static Sprays – By using a product like Static Guard, pet hair can be released from clothes and even prevented from sticking to them in the first place.
  • Rubber Gloves – If you dampen rubber dish gloves first, you can easily remove pet hair from clothes.
